Head of School Message

Dear Academia Moderna Family,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year
at Academia Moderna Charter School (AMCS). I look forward to partnering with our
students, families, and staff as we embark on an exciting year of learning and growth
together.

As an educator, I am deeply committed to providing every child with a high-quality,
student-centered education. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA), my teaching credential from California State University,
Dominguez Hills, and my administrative credential from California State University,
Sacramento. These experiences have shaped my passion for educational excellence,
equity, and creating learning environments where all students can thrive.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Academia Moderna is committed
to educating the whole child through an inquiry-based approach that emphasizes
interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and the development of strong character
through the IB Learner Profile. We strive to inspire students to become compassionate,
knowledgeable, and lifelong learners who make meaningful contributions to their
communities.

Academia Moderna's Culture of Care supports the academic, social, and emotional
growth of every student. Through our implementation of Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practices, we foster a safe,
inclusive, and respectful learning environment. Students are encouraged to reflect on
their choices, develop problem-solving skills, and build positive relationships by taking
responsibility for their actions and working collaboratively to resolve conflicts. These
practices help ensure that every student feels physically and emotionally safe in the
classroom and throughout our campus.

Our dedicated and diverse staff shares a common commitment to helping every child
succeed. Teachers participate in ongoing professional learning through the IB Primary
Years Programme (PYP) and engage in weekly collaboration with school leadership.
They work together to design engaging lessons, develop interdisciplinary units of
inquiry, support language development, and use assessments to guide instruction. Our
instructional aides provide targeted academic support in reading and mathematics,
while our yard supervisors help maintain a safe and positive environment during recess
and lunch and assist with campus operations. Our administrative assistant ensures the
smooth day-to-day operation of the school, and our maintenance team takes great pride
in providing a clean, safe, and welcoming campus for all.

 

I believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student
success. I encourage you to stay actively involved in your child's education by
maintaining open communication with teachers, participating in school events, and
supporting your child's learning at home. Together, we can create a positive and
enriching educational experience for every student.
